Crime and Punishment

Miss Tibbs put me in detention
For a moment's inattention
Now I'm to write a hundred lines
The same six words one hundred times.

You may think that punishment's fine
But shouldn't the sentence fit the crime
Perhaps, 'I will not doze in class'
But not, 'I will cut Miss Tibbs' grass'
One hundred times.

About the Poem

Two principles of discipline in schools is that punishments should be fair and consistently applied, things which seem to have passed Miss Tibbs by completely.
